Staining

By staining your garden building, you protect the timber against moisture, sunlight and fungi, while preserving the natural appearance of the wood.

A wooden garden house calls for proper maintenance, and staining is an essential part of that. By staining your garden house, you protect the wood against moisture, sun and mould, while preserving its natural appearance. This way, you'll enjoy an outdoor retreat that stays strong and looks beautiful for years to come.

What is stain?

Stain is a protective treatment that shields the wood and defines its look. Available in translucent and solid colours, either keeping the wood grain visible or softening it. The result is a warm, well-finished appearance. Suitable for the Prima and Pro building systems. Also applicable for windows and doors.

With a stain treatment, all parts to be stained are first fully pre-treated with a colourless base coat (on every side). Wall panels then receive 1 coat of stain on the outside (sprayed), while posts/braces, balustrades and windows/doors are sprayed all around with 1 coat. The staining process causes the wood fibres (particularly around knots) to lift, which can make the surface feel and look rough. For the best result and protection, we recommend lightly sanding the whole structure after assembly and applying one further coat of stain.

Windows and doors are finished with 1 primer coat and then sprayed all around with 2 coats of stain.

PRO TIP

Why staining your garden building?

Staining protects the wood against the elements, like rain, sun and wind. The stain penetrates deep into the wood, protecting it from within. This prevents the wood from rotting, developing mould or fading. On top of that, staining enhances the natural colour of the wood and creates a warm, luxurious look that's a perfect match for the style of your garden.

Why staining your garden building?

The benefits of a stain treatment

  • Protects the wood against moisture, mould and UV radiation.

  • Extends the lifespan of your garden house by 2 to 4 years.

  • Preserves the natural wood texture and prevents greying.

  • Available in various colours for a one-of-a-kind look.

Our Lugarde stain

Lugarde uses high-quality, water-based stain that is moisture-regulating, breathable and flexible. This allows the wood to keep breathing and moving naturally, without the paint layer cracking or flaking.

Good to know

  • Walls are stained in colour on the outside, while the inside receives a colourless pre-treatment.

  • Posts and balustrades are treated in colour all around.

  • We treat windows and doors with three coats as standard for maximum protection.

  • Lightly sanding and adding an extra coat of stain after assembly creates an even nicer result.

  • Please note: with solid white stain, small resin marks may remain visible. This is a natural characteristic of wood.

Stain or impregnation?

Torn between staining and impregnation? Staining gives a beautiful finish, while impregnation offers deeper, longer-lasting protection. Want the best of both worlds? Combine a spray treatment with stain for the most complete wood treatment.
